Connecting Spaces Pt. 3
Ort als Impuls (place as impulse)

Since 2022, I have been exploring the sound worlds of buildings. During this research I discovered that the soundscape of a building extends far beyond its physical boundaries.

In your room you hear voices from the street, laughter, celebration – the passing cars and the rushing siren of an ambulance. On the balcony, the leaves tremble in the wind, and ravens circle above – ingenious thieves speaking a mysterious language.

The soundscape is a concept not yet fully grasped, yet it is essential for how we inhabit and experience the world.

This installation presents the latest version of my reactive soundscape Ort als Impuls (Space as Impulse) and invites visitors to perceive the space as it unfolds: a living collage of inside and outside, shaped by sounds, shifting light, wind, and temperature.

This connection is made tangible with small blue wedges that keep the windows and the gallery door open. A neglected everyday object thus becomes a connector, linking the gallery’s interior with the garden, the block, the city – and, ultimately, the global space.
